The Open Water course is the recommended basic level of certification for anyone who is interested in becoming a certified Scuba Diver.

The Open Water course is the recommended basic level of certification for anyone who is interested in becoming a certified Scuba Diver.  It permits for worldwide dives of up to 18 meters (60 feet).  Get certified in Roatan, and discover an entirely new and different world anywhere you choose to go afterward.

Expect to take: ~3 days

Cost: US$400 (tax not included)

The Open Water Diving course can be completed in a minimum of three dives, and involves some theory. We will send you your E-Learning Materials ahead of time so you dont have to study during your VACATIONS.

Anybody from the age of 10 can sign up to become an Open Water diver. This course is for those who have decided to pursue diving and seek a basic certification.  It is the first complete course for anybody that wants to dive and the first prerequisite for further certifications.  For those who have never tried scuba diving before, we recommend trying out the Discover Scuba Diving course first, to see if diving is for you.

A typical course consists of 5 chapters of the Open Water course text, some confined water skills training (at Splash Inn, this is done in our private ocean swimming area), and 4 open water dives.

The Open Water Dive course costs US$400 (+ tax) which includes all materials, equipment, as well as the online certification as an Open Water Diver at the end of your course.

As an Open Water Diver you will be able to go diving (accompanied by a buddy who also has the minimum certification of Open Water Diver) to depths not exceeding 18 meters/60 ft.  Your certification will never expire, although a refresh is recommended after an extensive period of inactivity. This certification is recognized worldwide. Your only limitation as an Open Water Diver is the depth, as some dive sites of interest may be deeper than the certification allows.  In this case, an Advanced Open Water certification or additional deep water training would be necessary. Many divers elect to enhance their Open Water certification by taking the next recommended course, Advanced Open Water Diving, which allows dives of up to 30 m/100 ft.
